CLIENT: Family of four (2 adults, 2 children under 3yo)
DESIGNER FEE: $2800 (Stage 1); $460 (Stage 2)
PROJECT DURATION: 2 years
This family had been living in their home for several years but felt like it never quite came together. The spaces were unfinished, with a collection of furniture and pieces gathered over time, but no real sense of cohesion or direction.
With a toddler at home and another baby on the way, the pressure to make the house feel more functional and settled was growing. They wanted a home that reflected who they were now as a family, with clear zones for different activities and spaces that supported their children’s independence, but they were time poor and unsure where to start.
My role was to simplify the process and help them focus on the decisions that would have the most impact. I developed layouts across the main living areas, bedrooms, and study, and coordinated custom joinery to introduce more effective storage. I also sourced furniture and finishes throughout the home, creating a cohesive colour and style direction that reflected their personality and the pieces they already loved.
Rather than expecting them to manage everything themselves, I helped keep the project moving so they could make progress without it becoming another overwhelming task.
The result was a home that felt far more considered and complete. The spaces worked better for daily life, and the family felt proud to have people over and enjoy the home they had created. Importantly, their children had clear, dedicated areas within the home, which supported independence and made it easier for everyone to use the space.
The family re-engaged me about a year later as their needs shifted again, with their youngest child moving out of the master bedroom and into a shared room. This second stage focused on reworking layouts and storage to suit the new arrangement, ensuring the home continued to evolve alongside the family.
