transform the look and feel of your family home without needing to hire a designer

I know you’re a mum with only small snippets of time to yourself. Finding clear chunks of uninterrupted time is unheard of and that’s why I have designed this learning experience to suit your needs.

Pop in an earbud when you’re doing the dishes, folding the washing or during a dreamfeed and you’ll chip away at the bite-sized lessons to becoming your own interior stylist.

Before you know it, you will have enough interior styling know-how to create a more beautiful home all by yourself… yes, even with young children around.

You’re a mum of young children so you know how hard your home is working. I’m guessing it needs a little TLC.

If you’re like me, you look at home styling inspiration and feel a bit bummed longing for what you don’t have because of the presence of kiddos.

After I had my first child, bit by bit my home became overrun by her “stuff”. Her toys, her furniture, her mess… and slowly but surely, we lost parts of what we loved about our home. Our plants, our treasured trinkets, that rug we loved and more.

We acquired stuff faster than we would have liked and didn’t have a plan for how to make it work.

Fast forward a few years and we have found harmony between our adult belongings and our kids’ necessities. We enjoy being at home and spending time amongst the (mostly organised) chaos.

But more importantly, as the needs of our family keep changing, we have a roadmap for adapting our home that keeps our style, colour preferences, budget and personal values in mind.

Do you want a home that is calmer and more beautiful?

That functions day-to-day and is easier to keep clutter-free?

That makes you WANT to be at home?

Perhaps you want to inject more personality and love into your home but you don’t know where to start?

You see other homes that feel more “put together” and ooze style and warmth.

Time?

Probably! I can’t magically give you more of it though, sorry! (However, you could argue that I will save you plenty of it in the long run…)

Money?

Yeah, it definitely helps but it’s not the be-all and end-all.

Vision & know-how?

Bingo.

You need…

Module 1 focuses on setting the scene for the course's relevance in your life and establishing some written statements for what you hope to achieve by completing it. We will also explore the ways in which children can be considered in design.

In Module 2, I teach you about the key principles and elements of interior design. You will be able to critique what makes an interior space successful using technical language and start to evaluate what might improve your home (cue confident dinner party chat!).

Module 3 covers the role of colour, colour selection, and colour schemes and their application. We also delve into the most popular design styles and you will start to evaluate your personal style and explore the use of Pinterest via a guided tutorial.

In Module 4, you will learn the key questions to ask yourself when (re)arranging a room. I will teach the most important considerations for making different types of rooms successful, keeping structural limitations, budget and room purpose in mind.

Module 5 sees us taking time to reflect. We will explore your family values, letting go of guilt and comparison, and how to get on the same page as your partner. You will articulate a vision for your home and the steps you need to take to achieve it.

Family-minded design must consider functionality, so in Module 6 you will learn about minimising clutter, managing mess, and improving systems that make your home work smarter, not harder. This module is particularly relevant for life with young kids.

In Module 7, you will learn how to use Canva to produce an interior colour scheme, style guide and project concept to refer to when making selections throughout your home (that are both beautiful AND child-friendly).

Module 8 focuses on the practical steps that you will take to actually make purchases, including learning my framework for tracking, monitoring and fulfilling your vision. You will also get a template and tutorial for putting together room mood boards from scratch.

Yes, you read right! In this extra module, I troubleshoot solutions to difficulties commonly encountered by other families.

You can start whenever you would like! It is entirely self-paced and all videos are pre-recorded and ready to watch right now. You can also watch the lessons as many times as you like and whenever suits you.

The course contains over 30 lessons and tutorials that add up to about 10-15 hours of learning.

Even if you don’t believe in yourself, I KNOW that you will be able to complete this, even though you feel time poor. Why? Because I’ve designed it in such a way that you can dip in and out – none of the lessons are any longer than 15 minutes!

However, it’s entirely up to you how quickly you want to work through the modules. Each module is different in length and depth but contains some content and then you will require time to apply your learning. There is no assessment or need to submit anything to me but partaking in the prescribed exercises will be well worth your time.

Furthermore, because I orient you to important tools and give you templates, this will ultimately save you lots of time.

You can stop and start as much as you like and re-watch lessons if too much time passes and you need to jog your memory.

No, you don’t need any prior experience to enrol in the course. makespace is designed for regular mums who are interested in learning the fundamentals of successful interior design and styling. The course contains all the knowledge you need to make informed improvements to the look and feel of your home.  Plus you’ll have the opportunity to practice what you’ve learned through hands-on exercises.

I have targeted this course at mums of children aged 0-6 years. The core learning regarding design, style, colour, spatial planning, and systems will be applicable no matter the age of your child. However, much of the practical application and examples will be relevant only for children aged 6 and under. Please reach out to me if you’re wondering whether this course is relevant for you.

I understand that affordability is a concern for many people, particularly during these challenging financial times. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to create the home of their dreams and hope that the course presents a more accessible option than working 1:1 with a designer. To me, that seems worth the investment.

You may be planning a family, have a baby on the way or have multiple children already. You could be a renter or a home-owner, or about to embark on buying your first home. Regardless, by enrolling in makespace now, you’ll have the knowledge and skills at your fingertips for when you are ready to start styling your family home. I encourage you to consider the potential benefits of enrolling and what you stand to gain by learning this content now. Hindsight is a beautiful thing…

The course is delivered via a number of modules, each with their own pre-recorded videos. Accompanying the lessons will be a workbook available by digital download. You will be able to access the course via computer, tablet or mobile, provided that you can access the kajabi website or app!

You will get lifetime access to all of the content, including all future upgrades to the course.

Not at all! This course is 100% online and accessible worldwide.

Absolutely! If you complete this course and want to work more closely with me, I would be thrilled to explore this further.

Alternatively, if you feel like you need a more intensive 1:1 option instead of buying the course, please send me an email now at penny@fimdesign.com.au and I can provide you with details of how my services work.

There are a lot of interior design and styling courses online, so what makes this different?

  • This course is tailored specifically for mums of children aged 0-6 who want to learn the art of interior styling and transform their homes. You will get a step-by-step insight into what it would be like working with me 1:1 and learn the skills needed to transform your home into one that reflects your own vision (and if you don’t yet have that vision, don’t worry, I cover that too!).

  • I’m not here to teach you how to style your home for a magazine. That’s just not realistic with children – we all know it would look that good for a microsecond or will leave you feeling like a failure unable to keep it looking that way. You will learn how to style with practicality, functionality and liveability in mind, based on what works for YOUR family.

  • I don’t expect you’ll have a spare $20,000 lying around to overhaul your home in one go. So, you’ll get a roadmap for how to spend money wisely, slowly and with a long-term picture in mind.
